For most of my career, I could think faster than I could build.

For most of my career, I could think faster than I could build.

Ideas would arrive clearly. Execution would arrive… eventually. By then, some had cooled off, lost urgency, or been overtaken by other priorities.

I used to think that was just the nature of knowledge work.

What I’ve noticed recently is that the bottleneck was never the thinking — it was the distance between thought and artifact.

AI collapsed that distance.

Not because it thinks for me. The direction, judgment, and context are still mine. But it plays two roles I didn’t have before:

→ Thinking partner — not just exploring ideas, but getting to clarity. That shared understanding of the core intent before anything gets built. The “we’re on the same page” moment. Very human. Surprisingly powerful.

→ Builder partner — turning that clarity into something real, without the execution friction that used to filter out most of my ideas before they ever saw daylight.

Harvard Business School research found that individuals working with AI generated better ideas and reported the same energy they felt working with other high-performing humans. https://lnkd.in/g-fKGt9X

That last part surprised me initially.

The constraint was never the thinking. It was always the building.

How would you describe the role AI plays in your own creative process?
