Warning: This is a bit abstract. ... I hope you read on.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ For ~3 weeks I've been building a family operating system.

Not "AI for the family" โ€” that's apps + Shortcuts.

Not "smart home" โ€” that's hardware orchestration.

A genuine operating system for running the family + its ventures with the same rigor an enterprise applies to its own substrate.

Charters. Bylaws. Internal audit. Change control. Separation of duties. Reversibility classification. Identity & access management. Source-of-truth.

Five enterprise principles, applied at family scale:

๐Ÿ“œ 1. Constitutional governance. Every binding rule is a written, ratified, amendable artefact in version control. The system cannot evolve faster than its doctrine. Same shape an enterprise applies to its compliance manual.

๐Ÿค– 2. AI agents as governed principals (not assistants). Each agent has a binding contract โ€” identity, mandate, authority scope, tool capability matrix with reversibility classes (R1 read-only โ†’ R4 irreversible), red lines inherited from foundation guardrails. Same shape an enterprise applies to service accounts + IAM roles.

๐Ÿงฑ 3. Structural isolation. Different domains of life run in different "Companies." Cross-domain bleed is prevented at the infrastructure layer, not the prompt layer. Same shape an enterprise applies to subsidiary data isolation + tenant boundaries.

๐Ÿ” 4. Audit-by-default + reversibility-aware decisions. Every action through chokepoint services emits canonical events. Every destructive operation requires Board pre-approval. Same shape an enterprise applies to change-management gates + SOC 2 controls.

๐Ÿ“ 5. Source-controlled change. Every modification is a signed git commit, a ratified amendment, a tagged release. Drift surfaces as an incident. Same shape an enterprise applies to its production substrate.

๐Ÿ“Š By the numbers: โ€ข 4 repos ยท 283 signed commits ยท 278 tagged releases โ€ข 9 AI agents โ€” each with a binding 5-file contract โ€ข 38 ratification artefacts โ€” every rule has a written amendment trail โ€ข 13 named standards ยท plan at 3.2K lines / 46K words โ€ข ~71K lines of source-controlled doctrine + code โ€ข ~8,340 LLM turns ยท ~3B tokens through the build

๐ŸŽฏ The bet: a family-as-enterprise can be operated with the rigor of a regulated business โ€” without the bureaucracy.

Two operators. Multiple ventures. Multiple personas. AI agents staffing the work. Audit trail, approval gates, reversibility classes, persona isolation โ€” all enforced at the substrate layer.

โš–๏ธ Corporate governance machinery + family-as-operating-unit intent. Two things usually treated as opposites. They turn out to compose. Working name: a constitutionally-governed AI operating system for the family-as-enterprise.

๐Ÿค If you've been thinking about your family/household as something that could be operated rather than just lived in โ€” or wrestling with agent-governance at any scale โ€” I'd love to compare notes.
